Charles McPherson

Charles McPherson, alto sax | Bruce Barth, piano | Mark Hodgson, double bass | Stephen Keogh, drums

Charles McPherson is a living legend in jazz and an outstanding performer of Bebop, for him the most important style because, as he himself says, it embraces all the styles there are in jazz. McPherson’s musical sensibility, elegance and creativity have inspired generations of performers and captivated audiences. He worked with Charles Mingus from 1960 to 1972 and has performed with artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Art Farmer, Lionel Hampton and Wynton Marsalis. He comes to the Jazz Festival l'Estartit with pianist Brice Barth, whose expert playing we witnessed last summer at the Molinet, and the band is completed with double bassist Mark Hodgson and drummer Stephen Keogh.
