“The Kid”, by Charlie Chaplin with Chano Domínguez

The kid, 1921, is a classic amongst silent films. It is a sad, tender story, despite the comic content, and alternates between comedy and drama, explaining the sincere human relationship that develops between an orphan child and the tramp played by Chaplin. It was Chaplin’s first full-length film, and the story has the full emotional content typical of classic cinema. As Chaplin himself states in the opening title, it is “a comedy with a smile and perhaps a tear”. In the showing at Torroella, following the original practice with silent films, pianist Chano Domínguez with Marina Albero on vibraphone will improvise on pieces by Mompou, Granados and Falla.
