About this event

Programme Juy 27th

The classical and Romantic periods were the golden age for piano trios. The Sequoia Trio have chosen two works from these periods – the best known of Haydn’s works in the genre, no. 39, known as the “Gypsy Trio”, and the intense, dramatic second trio by Mendelssohn.

Programme July 28

For this programme of piano trios, the Sequoia Trio have chosen two early works by Beethoven and Shostakovich. Beethoven’s Trio in E flat major, Op. 1, no.1 was the first work by the composer to be presented in public, and the Trio no. 1 in C minor, Op. 8 by Shostakovich was written at the age of 17. The work bears relation to the composer’s first love, Tatyana Glivenko, who he met on holiday in 1923 and to whom the score is dedicated.
