The virtuosity of Nikolai Lugansky bears the unmistakable mark of the Russian Romantic school, but behind this spectacular technique there is a versatile pianist of great refinement and sensitivity. For his first concert at the Torroella Festival, Lugansky has chosen a programme that puts his artistic qualities to the test – the intimate character of César Franck’s Prelude, fugue and variation, the popular impromptus by Schubert, Tchaikovsky’s colourful Seasons and the stirring Moments musicaux by Rachmaninov.
