J.S. Bach : Sonata in G minor, BWV 1001 / Partita in E major, BWV 1006 / Partita in D minor, BWV 1004

Viktoria Mullova will play one of the Sonatas and two of the Partitas from the full set of six composed in 1720. The D minor Chaconne, from Partita no. 2, BWV 1004, a movement with 31 variations on a single theme, is one of the most demanding pieces ever written for the violin, both technically and musically. In a letter to Clara Schumann, Brahms wrote “On a single stave and for a small instrument, the man has written a whole world of the deepest thoughts and the most powerful feelings."
